BPL@Night hosts Music of the Times Featuring the Birmingham Heritage Band
April 10, 2008, Birmingham, AL—The Birmingham Public Library’s BPL@Night series is proud to host Music of the Times featuring the Birmingham Heritage Band. In the 1930s, in order to escape the difficult economic conditions, American society turned to music. The music of these times was big and the bands were even bigger. In general, the bands consisted of 12-25 musicians. These big band orchestras include the likes of Duke Ellington, Erskine Hawkins, Glenn Miller, and many others.
The Birmingham Public Library offered a small taste of the Birmingham Heritage Band for Wednesday’s Brown Bag Program, which was an amazing success with a packed crowd in the library’s auditorium. Members of the Birmingham Heritage Band include Frank Adams, Tolton Rosser, Bill Harris, and Sherman Caesar, among others. Many of these members are seasoned veterans on the music scene, having played with some of the world’s jazz greats. The April 17th performance will feature all the members of the band.
