AlabamaMosaic is a repository of digital materials on Alabama's history, culture, places, and people. Its purpose is to make unique historical treasures from Alabama's archives, libraries, museums, and other repositories electronically accessible to Alabama residents and to students, researchers, and the general public in other states and countries.


Did You Know?

The Jefferson County Library Cooperative has been cut from the Jefferson County budget. This affects services at Birmingham Public Libraries, and other municipal libraries in the county. JCLC services include Internet access, book and DVD delivery between libraries, one centralized catalog, one centralized library card, and access to free databases including Heritage Quest Online for genealogy and business resource Reference USA.


Bards & Brews Makes Its Return

Set your alarm for Friday, January 6, at 6:30 p.m. It marks the time when the library’s phenomenal program Bards & Brews makes its return. Since its inception in October 2010, Bards & Brews has brought a diverse audience of more than 900 attendees to the Central Library. Returning in 2012 is our host Brian “Voice Porter” Hawkins, who has emceed poetry slams throughout the city. Live music is performed from 6:30 p.m. until the slam begins at 7:00 p.m. The monthly poetry slam and beer tasting is held on the first Friday of each month and is free to the public. Birmingham Public Libraries Closed January 1-2 for Holiday

A
ll locations of the Birmingham Public Library will be closed Sunday, January 1, through Monday, January 2, in observance of the New Year's holiday.

Neighborhood libraries in Ensley, Inglenook, North Avondale, Powderly, Woodlawn, and Wylam will resume their temporary hours opening at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. All other locations of the Birmingham Public Library except Pratt City (currently closed) will open Tuesday, January 3, at 9:00 a.m.
