October 17 • Pompeii: Tales from the Construction
Terry Beckham, Head Exhibitions Designer, Birmingham Museum of Art
Beckham has produced exhibitions for the Museum since 1984. He will give a master designer’s perspective of installing an exhibition of the scale of Pompeii: Tales from an Eruption. From knocking down walls to perfecting the lighting,
learn how 10,000 square feet of space were transformed into a classical Roman setting.

November 14 • Pompeii: Past and Present
James Lamb, Curator of Paleontology, McWane Science Center
Dr. Lamb will discuss the effects of the explosion of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD and the risk of such a disaster happening again in the not so distant future.

December 12 • Treasures of Pompeii
Robin Meador-Woodruff, Guest Curator, Birmingham Museum of Art
Objects in the exhibition tell the riveting stories of the final days of Pompeii and the nearby resort cities of Herculaneum and Oplontis which were also buried by Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD. Learn more about the objects found in these once vibrant cities with this special curator-led talk.

January 9 • From Hippocrates to Galen: The Practice of Medicine in the Ancient World
Dennis Pappas, MD
The Ancient Romans were advanced in many ways, including the practice of medicine.
