Test Overview

The GED is made up of 5 tests:

  • Language Arts, Writing
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Language Arts, Reading
  • Mathematics

The table below shows the number of questions and the time limit for each test. You must take all 5 parts on the same day. Any parts you do not pass, you may take again.

To receive the GED certificate, you must earn both a minimum score of 410 on each test and an average score of at least 450 on all 5 tests.

The standard scores for the 2002 Series GED Tests range from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each test. The maximum score for all five GED Tests is 4,000.
