Being a map of Mobile Bay : called "Echvse" by the Indians; discovered by the Spanish navigator Piñeda in 1519 and named "Espiritv Santo". Later it was known as "Cvlata", also as "Filipina" and was given its present name by the French after the Mavbila Indians who fought so bravely against DeSoto in 1540 in what is now south Clarke County

Being a map of Mobile River and Delta called by the 16th Century Spanish "Rio de la Filipina"; later by the French for the Mobile Indians, whose name derives from the Choctaw word "Moeli" to paddle and so called "Riviere de la Mobile" until 1763, when British Anglicized it
