The Alabama Department of Senior Services offers a toll-free legal helpline. The Alabama Elder Law Helpline can assist seniors with common civil legal questions including wills, trusts and financial counseling. The Elder Law Helpline number is 1-866-456-3959. People age 60 and over can call the Alabama Elder Law Helpline Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program (BVLP) provides an organized vehicle through which lawyers can volunteer their services on a pro bono basis in civil matters to indigent citizens in the community.
The BVLP's Attorney for the Day program gives litigants who are representing themselves in court the opportunity to meet with an attorney at the Jefferson County Courthouse to receive short term advice and assistance. Services offered to litigants include assistance with properly completing forms and advice about matters such as procedure, appropriate filings, what evidence the litigant must present to support his/her case, and more.
LSA states they are "committed to providing equal access to justice to Alabama's low-income population" and offer services at no charge to those who qualify.
